PRACA TIRADENTES _ 0311

Praça Tiradentes is the site where Brazilian revolutionary Joaquim Jose da Silva Xavier was hanged in 1972, and takes its name from the nickname (‘tooth-puller, or Tiradentes) he earned due to his profession as a dentist. Numerous restaurants, bars and nightclubs are located in the area surrounding the plaza, and cultural hubs like Teatro João Caetano are also situated here.
